Discover Yeily Gordita's Mexican Food Truck

If you ever find yourself cruising through the quiet streets of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, there’s a delicious reason to pull over near 1000 W Washington St, Mt Pleasant, IA 52641, United States. The moment you catch the scent of sizzling masa and spiced carne asada, you’ll know you’ve reached Yeily Gordita’s Mexican Food Truck-a hidden gem that’s turning casual passersby into loyal regulars.

When I first stopped here, I was drawn by the vibrant colors of the truck and the cheerful chatter of customers waiting by the window. What struck me most wasn’t just the aroma, but the authenticity that poured out from every bite. The owner, Yeily herself, has roots deep in northern Mexico, and she brings generations of family recipes to life with a freshness that’s hard to find even in big-city taquerias. The gorditas, of course, steal the show-soft yet crispy masa pockets stuffed with seasoned pork, chicken, or beans. They’re hand-pressed and cooked right in front of you, and that alone makes the wait worthwhile.

Every menu item here tells a story. The tacos are simple but masterfully done-corn tortillas piled high with juicy carne asada or tender al pastor, topped with chopped onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. If you’re craving something hearty, the burritos come stuffed with rice, beans, meat, and cheese, wrapped so tight you could eat it with one hand on the go. But what really sets this food truck apart is the salsas. There’s the mild green one with a subtle smoky undertone and the fiery red salsa that packs the kind of punch only true chili lovers will appreciate.

I had the chance to chat with a few regulars while waiting for my order, and their enthusiasm spoke volumes. One customer, a local truck driver named Miguel, told me he stops by “every single lunch break,” claiming the gorditas here “taste like home.” Another mentioned that the truck’s consistency is what keeps them coming back-“same flavor, same smile, every time.” Those kinds of real-world reviews say more than any five-star rating online ever could.

From a culinary perspective, this little food truck showcases how Mexican street food is meant to be enjoyed: fresh, flavorful, and unpretentious. According to the National Restaurant Association, street food-style dining in the U.S. has surged by over 15% in the past three years, reflecting a growing appetite for authentic, made-from-scratch meals served fast. Yeily’s operation fits that trend perfectly while staying true to traditional methods. Her use of local ingredients whenever possible not only supports nearby farms but also ensures that every taco and gordita tastes clean and vibrant.

What also stands out is the level of care in preparation. Watching Yeily and her team at work feels like watching a well-practiced dance-each move precise and confident. From the sound of sizzling meat on the griddle to the rhythmic patting of masa for the gorditas, it’s clear this isn’t just fast food; it’s craft food. The passion in her cooking reminds me of visiting family kitchens in Mexico, where every meal was made to feed both body and soul.

The location itself adds to the charm. Set near the heart of town, this food truck has become a lunchtime staple for office workers, travelers, and families alike. Despite the modest setup, it manages to create a warm, communal atmosphere-people chatting in line, laughing over shared tables, or grabbing a quick meal before heading back to work. You might even spot Yeily greeting familiar faces by name, which says a lot about the trust and loyalty she’s earned from her customers.

While I’ve eaten at countless Mexican restaurants across the Midwest, few deliver the same combination of authenticity, friendliness, and value. It’s this genuine connection between food, people, and place that gives Yeily’s truck its magic. Sure, it’s just one small trailer parked along a busy street, but what happens inside it-handcrafted meals made with pride-captures the heart of true Mexican street cuisine. Whether you’re a local looking for your new favorite lunch spot or a traveler passing through Mount Pleasant, this is one stop you shouldn’t miss.

  • So glad we stopped here on the way back to Des Moines from St. Louis. There was a little bit of a wait, but it was worth it for the freshly made tortillas! We ordered asada and chorizo tacos, along with their mango juice. Everything was so hot, fresh, and delicious that we ordered another round. I needed four tacos to feel full, just for reference. The workers were extremely friendly and helpful and brought the food right to our car. I would highly recommend stopping for a bite!

  • The food was all pretty tasty. We had a torta, 4 tacos and a couple of raspados. The torta was well grilled and the bread was toasty. The tacos were also very tasty but very tiny. This is in a small box. Take that into account when ordering. 2 is just a snack. The raspados were very tasty but mostly ice. If you order here count on a long wait. It took close to 30 min to get our order.

  • The absolute BEST food I have ever had at a taco truck, and I have stopped at a lot. Just happened to pass through Ft. Pleasant on our way east and saw the truck. It seemed like they were taking a long time, but when our order was up, I saw that the tortillas were FRESHLY MADE!!! The gordita and tacos were amazing.

  • TERRIFIC! I got the steak tacos and piña fresca. The fresca and tortillas were fresh homemade and absolutely delicious. 10/10 recommend. The food truck has an awning so you don’t have to stand in the sun to order. No seating, but they deliver the food to your car.
